On Friday, May 26, Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) will celebrate the work of students and graduates from its creative sector programs and raise funds for future students from equity-deserving groups through an industry showcase at the Light House Arts Centre.
"Spark Creativity shines a spotlight on our talented creative industries students and established alumni artists," says Don Bureaux, NSCC President. "The showcase is uniting students and alumni to build equitable pathways to careers in Nova Scotia's creative sector for learners from equity-deserving groups."
Spark Creativity will feature musical performances by alumni bands Neon Dreams and Good Dear Good, visual displays and multidisciplinary art exhibits, with net proceeds from the event supporting the new Spark Creativity Student Bursary Fund. This fund will provide financial aid bursaries for learners from communities under-represented in the creative sector, helping them pursue Creative Industries programming at the College. Donations to the fund can be made through the NSCC Foundation.
Bureaux adds, "At NSCC, we are committed to reducing the barriers to education that many of our students face. It's our hope that the Spark Creativity Student Bursary Fund will continue to help us foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment to inspire and support the next generation of creative industry leaders."
