Students from across the Upper Grand DSB are coming together to celebrate the visual arts.
On April 3, 2025, the second annual Battle of the Brushes will be hosted at Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus, as well as the first-ever UGDSB Excellence in Visual Arts Show.

Battle of the Brushes is a live painting competition, where secondary students will have 20 minutes to complete a finished painting. There will be two rounds, the winners of these rounds will be chosen by popular vote and progress to the final painting round, from which a winner will be titled. The 20-minute paintings will be auctioned off during the event, with the proceeds being divided between the winner and a charity of their choosing.
The UGDSB Excellence in Visual Arts Show is a secondary students art show, feature art from secondary students from across the UGDSB. The show will be going up between April 1 to 3, 2025. Members of the pubic are welcome to come and view the show on April 3, 2025, from 6-9pm.
Admission is free, free snacks will be available, and a student run craft sale will also be run.
This show will serve as a pre-adjudication for the 'Emerging Insights' Show at the Wellington County Museum. The Elora/Fergus Arts Council will be providing professional artists to view the show and choose pieces that will move on to the 'Emerging Insights' show that runs from May 1 to Sept 30, 2025. Those students' whose work has been chosen to move onto the museum will be announced at 7:30pm on April 3rd.
