City of Brampton renews partnership with Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at TMU

June 17, 2025

The Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at TMU (the Catalyst) has extended its partnership with the City of Brampton.

The city and the national cybersecurity centre renewed their partnership with a five-year, $5 million agreement announced earlier this month.

"We're excited to renew our partnership with the City of Brampton," said Judith Borts, acting executive director at the Catalyst.

"This collaboration strengthens our shared commitment to empowering top cybersecurity talent and accelerating homegrown innovation," she added.

The Catalyst is located in Brampton and part of the city's innovation district.

Launched in 2018, it serves as a hub for cybersecurity training, entrepreneurship, policy and education.

The partnership will help the Catalyst continue to work with Brampton to boost cybersecurity awareness, offer specialized training and support local businesses and community organizations.

The goal is to nurture local cybersecurity talent, bolster entrepreneurial ventures and strengthen community cybersecurity initiatives in the growing city.

"Renewing this collaboration with the City of Brampton reinforces our shared ambition to create a lasting impact through innovation, talent, and community partnerships. Importantly, Brampton remains an important region in advancing cybersecurity with the Catalyst and TMU," added Catalyst board chair and TMU's vice-president, Research and Innovation, Steven N. Liss.

Milestones reached

In the last five years, the Catalyst has hit a number of significant milestones.

These include launching the Catalyst Cyber Accelerator, which has supported more than 60 startups; providing cyber training to more than 50 organizations through their Cyber Range.

The Catalyst also launched the RBC FinSec Incubator for early stage cyber and fintech companies. Most recently, it showcased more than 195 Canadian cybersecurity businesses through the Catalyst's Buy Canadian Cyber directory, championing homegrown innovation and putting local solutions in the global spotlight.

"This renewed investment underscores our shared commitment to advancing cybersecurity excellence and innovation," said TMU's President and Vice-Chancellor, Mohamed Lachemi.

"Through the Catalyst, TMU is strengthening Canada's national cyber capacity while deepening its growing presence in Brampton."
