The new Government of Yukon is responding to community concerns about the future location of École Whitehorse Elementary School. The project is no longer moving forward at the Takhini Educational Land Reserve.
Previous planning gaps were leading to cost overruns on the project.
The Department of Education will engage with partners, parents and the broader school community early in the new year to help identify a preferred location for the new school. This process will look at a range of possible sites.
We've heard the concerns about traffic, neighbourhood impacts and a lengthy rezoning process. Our government is committed to a thoughtful and collaborative approach, by working closely with families, First Nations partners, neighbourhoods and the school community to determine a school location that reflects what Yukoners want and supports students for generations to come.
