BROCK UNIVERSITY
Brock launches graduate micro-programs

March 28, 2024

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGSPA) has launched 10 graduate micro-programs (GMPs) in Education, Professional Kinesiology and Public Health.

GMPs allow students to gain graduate-level experience without the commitment of a master's degree. The course-based, non-degree programs can be completed in as little as eight months, but have no completion deadline to increase flexibility.

"We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our program offerings with the introduction of the GMPs within our Faculty," said Katie Jane (KJ) Millington, Associate Director, Graduate Operations and Systems and lead facilitator in launching the programs.

"This initiative aims to provide a more convenient avenue for community members and working professionals to engage in graduate-level education on a part-time, flexible basis," she said.

The newest program additions include Educational Psychology: Teaching, Learning and Wellness along with five other options through the Faculty of Education, Behaviour Change and Coaching in Kinesiology along with two other Professional Kinesiology options, and Health Information Management in Public Health.

Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs Suzanne Curtin emphasizes the value and increased demand of graduate micro-programs.

"With the launch of these 10 new micro-programs, the Faculty is excited to continue to innovate and meet the diverse educational needs of students," says Curtin. "In Canada, the demand for these programs is skyrocketing as professionals look for opportunities to enhance their expertise in a more accessible and flexible manner. By providing a pathway for individuals to advance their careers without needing to commit to a full graduate degree, micro-programs are revolutionizing graduate education and helping to fulfill the evolving needs of our workforce."

Students who successfully complete a GMP will receive a completion notation on their transcript and may apply to transfer the credits earned toward a Brock master's degree.

Applications are currently being accepted with an associated fee.

Interested applicants can learn more and apply for Brock's newest program offerings on the FGSPA website.
