Islanders with innovative ideas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change, and strengthen community resilience can now apply for support through the Prince Edward Island Climate Challenge Fund.
The fund provides financial support for projects that help communities, businesses, First Nations, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations take action on climate change. Priority areas for this year's intake are:
- Developing and implementing proactive adaptation strategies for PEI municipalities.
- Improving water conservation and ensuring access to clean drinking water during extreme weather or climate emergencies.
- Strengthening community assets, including communication systems, fuel supplies, food distribution, and supports for vulnerable populations.
- Supporting climate adaptation in sensitive industries.
- Conducting emissions or energy analyses for communities and businesses.

Applications are being accepted until December 4, 2025. Projects must begin in 2026 and be completed by September 30,2027.

The Climate Challenge Fund was launched in 2020 and has provided over $1 million annually to local groups advancing home-grown climate action adding up to $6.8 million in provincial funding since its inception. The fund has supported projects across the province that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand research and education, and pilot innovative adaptation strategies.
