Graduates of five certificate and diploma programs at Assiniboine College's Parkland campus have completed an important leg of their career journey, with many crossing the stage at a graduation ceremony in Dauphin on Friday, June 6.
"These graduates have put in a great deal of work to advance their futures, and I'm impressed each year by the commitment our graduates have made and carried out. Today is about commending these graduates as they complete this important chapter and move forward to their chosen careers," said Mark Frison, President of Assiniboine College. "This achievement represents hard work and perseverance and brings with it the skills and adaptability needed to thrive in an ever-changing world."
Carol Stewart, Director of the Parkland Campus, shared her excitement for the nearly 60 students graduating.
"This is a deeply meaningful day for all of us at the Parkland Campus. We are filled with pride as we watch our students cross the stage - many of whom have balanced their studies with work, family, and personal challenges. Their determination is inspiring, and it's an honour to celebrate not only their achievements, but also the unwavering support of their families. This moment belongs to the whole community, and I couldn't be prouder of what our graduates have accomplished and the bright futures they are creating," said Stewart.
Valedictorian for Parkland campus, Abigail Worrall, is graduating from the Practical Nursing program. She has accepted a full-time position at St. Rose General Hospital, where she plans to gain valuable experience before looking to pursue her Bachelor of Nursing.
"Graduation is a monumental milestone for all the graduates, including myself. I look forward to the opportunity to celebrate these accomplishments alongside my fellow graduates, family, and friends," said Worrall. "I have so many fond memories of Parkland campus, including celebrations and working long hours alongside my classmates to try and master our skills."
Worrall also noted for future students that the training opportunity at Parkland campus was important to her journey, recommending others explore post-secondary schooling as a path towards rewarding careers.
Friday's ceremony also recognized the tremendous accomplishment for an Assiniboine student who has excelled academically. The Governor General's Medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest overall average in a diploma program. This year's recipient for Parkland campus is Practical Nursing student, Ashlynn Brandt.
"Congratulations to those graduating from programs at Assiniboine's Parkland campus," said Renée Cable, Minister of Advanced Education and Training. "As you take this important step forward, know that you are not only building brighter futures for yourselves and your families, but also strengthening the communities and industries that make Manitoba thrive. We are proud of all you've accomplished and excited for the impact you will make."
