At Edmonton Public Schools, we are committed to providing clear, consistent and meaningful communication about your child's learning journey.
Based on feedback from teachers and administrators, we are implementing an improved, Division-wide approach to progress reporting for students in Kindergarten to Grade 9, effective this school year.
This change is designed to ensure consistency across all K-9 schools and make progress reports easier to understand. It will also allow teachers to focus on conversations about learning in the fall.
What's changing?
Progress reports
Students will receive two progress reports annually, one in January and one in June (a change that was already in place for Kindergarten last school year).
In addition, all K-9 schools will now use a standard, Division-wide progress report format that is clearer so families can more easily follow how their child is progressing.
Individual student reports (Grades 7-9 only)
Students in Grades 7-9 will also receive two individual student reports (in December and April); these reports will communicate information about a student's grades for specific assignments and learning activities.
Ongoing communication about learning
While K-9 students will receive one fewer formal progress report, this does not mean a decrease in overall communication about your child's progress. Progress reports are just one of the ways schools communicate with families.
Teachers will continue to communicate regularly with families using a variety of tools, including:
- individual student reports (for Grades 7-9)
- parent/family conferences
- SchoolZone
- email and phone calls (as needed)
- Google Classroom and other digital tools
Parent/family conferences
All schools will schedule parent/family conferences twice a year once in November and once in March/April.
Kindergarten fall family conferences will continue to be used to share information with families about their child's developmental readiness and learning progress.
Schools will share their conference dates with families in advance.
Grades 10-12 reporting
The progress report schedule for high school students will not change. Students in Grades 10-12 will continue to receive one individual student report at the middle of each course and one progress report at the end of each course.
