The Healthy Community Award recognizes individuals and organizations across the watershed who lead innovative environmental programs, increase community connection, and share vital knowledge. SMCDSB is being honoured specifically for championing outdoor learning and empowering educators across our region.
At the heart of this work are Annie Johnston, elementary curriculum consultant, and Sonja Whitehead, elementary curriculum coordinator. Through the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP), Annie and Sonja give new teachers the tools and confidence they need to bring learning outside. Their hands-on support helps teachers build outdoor activities into their everyday lessons for students across the board.
Congratulations to Annie, Sonja, and all of our educators who continue to support meaningful learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
