NOVA SCOTIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Update: Collective Bargaining Negotiations - Faculty and Professional Support

February 2, 2024

Bargaining teams with the Atlantic Academic Union (AAU) and NSCC continue to work toward reaching collective agreements on behalf of Faculty and Professional Support colleagues.

After approximately 30 meeting days that have been positive, respectful and productive, the AAU bargaining team filed for conciliation (Jan.19) and a conciliator has been appointed by the Labour Services Branch of the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration. Meeting dates have been set for February 21 and 22.

Conciliation is a legitimate step in the collective bargaining process and can be helpful in supporting parties to resolve any outstanding issues at the bargaining table. The steps of conciliation are outlined on nscc.ca.

The College looks forward to working with the conciliation officer to build on the progress the bargaining teams have made so far, and we continue to focus on reaching collective agreements that strengthen the working and learning environment for both employees and students.

It is important to note that there is no possibility for a legal strike, or any other form of legal job action, while conciliation is underway.
