Thanks to a recent agreement between the University of Regina (U of R) and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Suncrest College's Early Childhood Education (ECE) graduates will see their diploma recognized towards a Bachelor of Education, Early Elementary (Pre-K-Grade 5) degree.
"Providing opportunities for students to ladder their diploma program into a degree program with the University of Regina is such an important benefit of the regional college system," said Malena Vroom, Suncrest Chair of Post Secondary. "We know that students who attend Suncrest College benefit from starting their education closer to home. With the ability to earn income from the successful completion of the ECE or EA Diploma while pursuing a university degree, our learners have meaningful employment and education opportunities, ensuring success in the short and long term."
Students with a minimum program grade point average (PGPA) of 60 per cent will be eligible upon graduation, on or after April 30, 2021, to receive 30 credit hours recognized as a transfer credit in the program. Those grads who completed the program before April 30, 2021, may be approved as eligible but will be handled on a case-by-case basis, pending approval by the U of R Faculty of Education.
Currently, Suncrest's ECE program is offered in five campuses across the region, in Canora, Fort Qu'Appelle, Melfort, Nipawin and Yorkton.
