COLLEGE OF NEW CALEDONIA
Celebrating the Future Forestry Leaders: The CIF Silver Ring Ceremony

May 6, 2024

In a memorable evening at the Columbus Community Centre, the Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF) celebrated a new generation of forestry professionals with the presentation of CIF Silver Rings. This prestigious event, highlighted by Dr. Kathy Lewis' keynote speech, marked a milestone for students from both the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and the College of New Caledonia (CNC).

The CIF Silver Ring represents the achievement of comprehensive education and hands-on experience in forestry. It connects graduates from all over the country, regardless of their regional background, job, or language. Designed to be worn on the pinky finger, its maple leaf design symbolizes the expansion of professional duties, making it a suitable symbol for individuals committed to responsible forest management.

The event became emotional when Megan Patterson, speaking for her classmates, shared thoughts on their time in school. "Life is all about perspective and I hope all of you guys will look back at this and remember the friendships we made, the goals we achieved, and the memories we created, because that's what I see when I look back at it." In her speech, Megan highlighted the challenges faced and the strong sense of unity among students. She spoke of resilience, humor, and shared successes in overcoming difficulties. Megan also gave a big thank you to the teachers for all their help during their educational journey.

The ceremony recognized the following CNC students for their hard work and dedication: Zahara Baugh-Lussier, Raylea Garland, Kiya Giesbrecht, Bruce Hodgkins, Jacob Kowalewski, Jocelyn Mosher, Mackinnon Nagle, Dylan Passeri, Megan Paquette Patterson, Jordyn Phillips, Nicholas Silver, Graeme Thiessen, Payden Weaver, Tysha Whaling, and Janelle Wright.

CNC extends its heartfelt congratulations to all students who have received this significant honor. The CIF Silver Ring Ceremony not only celebrates the end of a chapter but also the beginning of promising careers in forestry, embodying a bond of professionalism and passion for sustainable environmental stewardship.
