Cambrian's Wellness Fair will feature wellness services on campus and local community vendors focused on well-being and mental health. There will also be various activities, swag, and a $2 lunch hosted by the Cambrian Student Council. Chartwell's Good Vibes Grill in the college's main cafeteria will also donate all proceeds from the sale of poutine on Wednesday to health and wellness initiatives on campus.
"Our students are juggling so much between classes, jobs, social lives, newfound independence, and all of life's pressures," explains Cambrian's Wellness Coordinator Krystel Houle. "That can be overwhelming at times. We want to see our students thrive during their time at Cambrian and one of the ways we can do that is by helping them find balance by prioritizing their wellness. The Wellness Fair is all about providing tools and resources to help them thrive emotionally, mentally, and socially.
"It is truly inspiring to see them take charge of their well-being."
A number of students are volunteering at the Wellness Fair, including Rushawn Bascoe, who is president of the Cambrian Athletic Association and a member of the Cambrian Shield men's varsity soccer team.
"Health and wellness are crucial for students because they help us manage the stresses of school life and perform at our best, both academically and personally," adds Bascoe. "As an athlete, I know the added responsibilities of balancing training, classes, and personal life, so it's important to have resources that support our well-being and mental health."
The Wellness Fair and other events this week are part of Cambrian's commitment, as an official signatory, to the Okanagan Charter. The Okanagan Charter is an international document developed in Canada that commits colleges and universities around the world to promoting wellness on campus and in the community.
