Introduction to the ethics of research involving humans

The Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) will soon be holding a training session on the ethics of research involving human participants. This activity will be held online on February 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Montreal time), Cégeps, subsidized private colleges, and government schools are encouraged to promote the activity as they see fit.

This training session is open to anyone interested in the subject, regardless of their role or position: researchers, research ethics board members and coordinators, teachers who offer courses involving research activities, academic advisors assisting these teachers, program administrators overseeing study programs with student research activities, individuals responsible for research initiation measures, or students enrolled in such activities.

Drawing on the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2 2022), the training will begin with a presentation of the core principles of research ethics: Respect for Persons, Concern for Welfare, and Justice. The concepts of consent, risk and confidentiality will then be discussed using examples. Lastly, all registered participants will be invited to carry out exercises.

Please note that in order to encourage an open discussion and full participation, the discussion part of the session will not be recorded. You can also speak to the resource person in both English and French. Individuals from institutions that make a contribution to ARC, or their research units, will be allowed to participate free of charge. Otherwise, the fees are outlined in the fee schedule.
