Emily Chen, VCC's International Student Success and Engagement Coordinator, has been named a Rising Star in International Education by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE).
BCCIE's Rising Star Award recognizes tomorrow's leaders: up-and-coming talent and the next generation of leaders in the field of international education.
In her role at VCC, Emily contributes to immigration advising, student engagement programming, and building external partnerships with organizations such as SUCCESS and MOSAIC. She is also leading the development of an online course to onboard new international students.
"Having come to Canada as an international student from mainland China, this recognition is especially meaningful to me as someone who has walked the same path as many of the students I now support," says Emily. "I'm driven by a commitment to create welcoming, supportive, and practical resources so students can feel confident and connected as they start their journey at VCC."
"Emily is a rising star in every way. As a former international student, Emily understands the importance of connection and consistently seeks ways to engage our students," says Jennifer Gossen, Director, International Education at VCC. "Emily has developed strong internal and external relationships to ensure our international students are well supported and as successful as possible. She is a valuable member of the VCC community, and we are thrilled that she has received this award.
The award highlights VCC's continued leadership in international education and its commitment to supporting students through dedicated staff.
The University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific-International Secretariat (UMAP-IS), which has been hosted at VCC for the past five years, was also honoured for its impact on international programs at Canadian higher education institutions. This includes increasing the number of Canadian students travelling to study at international partner institutions, fostering opportunities for virtual networking and partnership development, and promoting opportunities for capacity building and professional development.
