COLLEGE OF THE ROCKIES
COTR and EVR partnership benefits students and community

February 4, 2025

Reinforcing the continued strong partnership between College of the Rockies (COTR) and Elk Valley Resources (EVR), EVR has been named a Platinum Sponsor of the College's annual Career and Job Fair. Through this sponsorship, as well as other commitments benefiting students and apprentices, EVR is building on the longstanding support COTR has received from the region's steelmaking coal industry.

"College of the Rockies maintains its position as the training partner of choice for the region's mining industry and Elk Valley Resources has strongly signaled their commitment to continue this spirit of partnership and collaboration that has been built over the years," said Ranjan Bhattacharya, Dean of Trades and Technology, COTR.

EVR's Platinum sponsorship of the College's annual Career and Job Fair to be held March 5, 2025, will allow the College to enhance the event, providing even more value to participants. Held at the College annually in March, the Career and Job Fair sees hundreds of job seekers attend to meet with potential employers. Employers reported hiring over 135 people from the connections made at last year's fair.

Last autumn, when the College unexpectedly faced a funding shortfall for its Apprenticeship program, EVR stepped up to ensure the continuity of education by generously sponsoring a Level 1 Heavy Duty intake. EVR's leadership allowed the College to proceed with the scheduled intake.

"This was of benefit not only to EVR's apprentices, but also to a dozen or so apprentices from other companies who were enrolled in the class," said Bhattacharya. "This additional sponsorship is a real demonstration of EVR's commitment to benefiting the region."

"EVR is committed to supporting College of the Rockies as it equips students with the skills to access strong career opportunities in mining while helping to meet the growing demand for skilled workers across the industry," said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR.
