They got game! It was a weekend fueled by creativity, originality and the quest for pixel perfection as Cambrian College students participated for the first time at the Level Up Showcase 2025.
The Level Up Showcase is an annual competition for post-secondary students in the game design sector. It was held Saturday, April 12 in Toronto.

Cambrian College's Game Design students competed for the first time at the annual Level Up Showcase event in Toronto. Cambrian entered two teams in the competition, with Team Chaos Theory Studio earning an honourable mention (top five) out of the 150 teams in the contest. Cambrian's Game Design program entered two teams in this year's showcase: Chaos Theory Studio and Team Northern Witches.
Chaos Theory Studio placed in the top five among 150 teams from 23 colleges and universities across Ontario, earning an honourable mention from the judges.
Chaos Theory's submission was Chaos Party, a chaotic party game where humans entertain their alien overlords through quick and silly mini games. It is a bit of Mario Party meets Rubber Bandits.
Team Northern Witches presented a game called Mystic Meadows, a casual and engaging farming and crafting experience with role-playing elements. It's a bit of Stardew Valley meets Potion Permit.
"This was our first time participating in the Level Up Showcase and the two Cambrian teams that competed were outstanding," says Cambrian's Game Design program coordinator and team coach Aaron Langille. "The honourable mention in overall game design and interest from the judges prove that our Game Design program can compete with programs from larger colleges and universities. We can't wait to return to Level Up with the knowledge and experience we've gained."
Cambrian's two-year Game Design program equips students with the skills they need to pursue careers in the computer gaming industry, in such disciplines as game development, creative director for software development, software development, software engineer and game marketer.
