A faculty member in Cambrian College's Espanola campus has won an award for leadership in adult literacy education.
Evelyn Diebel is the recipient of the Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership, presented by the Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council and Good Learning Anywhere. The organization offers online courses to help Ontario adults access job opportunities, develop life skills, and prepare for post-secondary education.
Evelyn Diebel, a professor in the Adult Literacy program at Cambrian College's Espanola campus, is this year's recipient of the Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership, presented by the Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council and Good Learning Anywhere. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in adult literacy and education.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership within the Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council and Good Learning Anywhere (SHLC-GLA) community, whether through active engagement in online classes, meaningful communication with peers, or leadership in their community.
"Evelyn was nominated because of the remarkable dedication, positivity, and encouragement she consistently offers to others," explains Susan Wright, Registrar, Online Educator and Live Class Lead with the Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council. "She leads with integrity and compassion, supports learners generously, and contributes to creating a welcoming, inspiring environment for all. Her impact has been truly significant, and her leadership continues to empower others to reach for their goals and dreams."
Diebel has been a teacher with Cambrian's Espanola campus for more than 25 years, specializing in adult literacy.
"Partnerships in communities are key for success," explains Diebel. "Lifelong learning depends on all community members to support individuals in their learning journey."
