CANADORE COLLEGE
President George Burton stepping down

June 19, 2025

After 15 years at Canadore College, President George Burton is stepping down. Burton has announced he will not seek renewal of his contract with the College.

"My time as President of Canadore College will conclude on January 26, 2026. This has not been an easy decision, but the future is bright. Canadore's programs and services are relevant and in demand. Our financial picture is strong," Burton said.

Burton, a graduate of Canadore College, was appointed President and CEO of the College in the summer of 2010. Since assuming the role, he has led significant advancements across the institution, including the expansion and modernization of simulation labs, classroom facilities, and laboratory spaces. Under his leadership, the College has seen the growth of the Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Prototyping (ICAMP) and the development of The Village Canada's first intergenerational facility designed to educate students in health, human care, and social services within a collaborative, real-world environment.

In his note to Canadore employees Burton reflected: "We have been bold, sometimes unconventional, and that willingness to challenge the status quo has been a powerful contributor to our success," said Burton. Together we have built a student-first culture, transformed our campuses, created new opportunities through innovation and partnerships, and strengthened our connection to the communities we serve."

"Together, we've built a student-first culture, transformed our campuses, created new opportunities through innovation and partnerships, and strengthened our connection to the communities we serve. I am confident that Canadore's next President, with your support, will build on our legacy and lead the College to new heights. I'm incredibly proud of what we've accomplished and confident that Canadore's future is bright."

Canadore will begin the process of choosing a new President and CEO in the fall.
