Shell Canada has generously donated $30,000 to the Northern Lights College Foundation to support youth summer camps for students aged 12-16 across the Peace Region.
The funding is helping to deliver six hands-on camps in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Chetwynd throughout July and August, including:
- Two Esthetics Camps
- Two Carpentry Camps
- One Trades Camp
- One Nursing Camp
Shell's donation reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in youth and education in northern communities.
Michelle Murray, Groundbirch Community Liaison for Shell Canada Integrated Gas, has visited with 3 of the camps so far to speak with students and answer questions about Shell and her career. She shared the motivation behind Shell's support:
"We do these camps so you can get exposed to different occupations and hopefully you might want to become an esthetician or maybe you might want to become a nurse or a doctor."

"We're looking at things for the future [and] we need to have people who fill those positions and to fill those hospitals," she said, referencing the new hospital in Dawson Creek and the growing need for skilled professionals in the region.
"We do these camps so you can get exposed to different occupations and hopefully you might want to become an esthetician or maybe you might want to become a nurse or a doctor."
Murray expressed hope that these camps will serve as a stepping stone toward future careers for local youth.
The donation was made earlier this spring to ensure the camps could move forward and reach as many youth as possible.
"We deeply appreciate Shell's ongoing support of Northern Lights College and the Northern Lights College Foundation, as well as their steadfast commitment to education." said Lindsey Borek, Executive Director of the NLC Foundation.
"Their sponsorship of our youth summer camps has enabled us to offer local youth the chance to discover the unique programs and experiences available at NLC. Through these opportunities, we hope to inspire a passion for higher learning in the next generation of our communities."
This initiative is part of Shell's broader commitment to education and community development across Canada.
