A constant stream of visitors made their way through the halls of Vanier on November 1 during Open House, despite the transit strike held that day. People arrived at noon and continued arriving steadily until 4 p.m. taking advantage of this perfect opportunity to visit the college and obtain information on the programs, services and activities offered at Vanier. As a result, the Student Mall and the Cafeteria Annex where the program tables were set up were full to overflowing and guided tours ran non-stop all day.
Some 2000 visitors attended information sessions for the Science and Social Science programs and tours were in constant demand as student volunteers guided groups around the college - on general tours, science lab tours, social science tours, technical program tours, tours of the N-building and tours of the Sports Complex. Also offered were visits to the STEM Centre, Learning Commons and library.
Many visitors made their way to Admissions and Advising areas set up in the library to have their particular questions addressed, while others headed to specific program departments such as Nursing, Respiratory and Anesthesia Technology, Animal Health Technology and science labs to see up close the learning environment and lab facilities at Vanier and have their questions answered by obliging teachers. Those with an artistic bent, visited the Henry Lehmann Gallery to view an exhibition of student artworks or attended one of the many concerts put on by the Music Department to showcase student talent and performance.
"Open House plays a vital role in helping future students find the right program for them, and that wouldn't be possible without the dedication and expertise of our committed staff and faculty. We're looking forward to welcoming many of these visitors as students in the Fall," said Isabelle Moncion, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs.
