"On behalf of the Search Committee, I would like to congratulate Richard on his new, permanent role," says Dr. Lane Trotter, President of Camosun College. "Camosun will benefit from Richard's deep and personal commitment to the college, the post-secondary sector and student success."
Richard brings 14 years of dedicated service to Camosun in progressively senior leadership roles - including Dean, Acting Vice-President, Enrolment and Community Engagement, and currently Acting Provost and Vice-President, Education and Innovation. During his time at the college, he demonstrated a genuine commitment to building strong relationships with Indigenous communities, fostering inclusive learning environments, supporting diverse groups, and promoting equitable access to education. Beyond Camosun, Richard has contributed to the wider post-secondary community as Chair of BC Business Deans and as a representative to the Association of Canadian Schools of Business.
"Throughout my career in the British Columbia's post-secondary system, I have championed the vital role that colleges play in providing truly life- changing learning opportunities in our communities," says Stride. "I am grateful for the college's belief in me as I take on the new role and look forward to building new relationships and strengthening existing ones."
The college will officially begin Richard's onboarding in January, following the same welcoming process used for external candidates.
"Thank you to everyone in the college community who participated in the interview process, joined the town hall, and shared thoughtful feedback," adds Trotter. "I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the Search Committee for their dedication and care throughout the process."
Before joining Camosun, Richard spent 20 years at North Island College, starting as a faculty member and chair in Business Administration and Computer Science, later serving as Dean of Academic Programs and Acting Vice-President, Education. He has also taught at BCIT, Malaspina University College, and in the financial sector. Richard holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education from UBC.
