CONFEDERATION COLLEGE
Tourism Students Receive Hands-On Experience Thanks to Collaboration with Wasaya Airways

April 11, 2016

Students in the Tourism - Travel and Eco-Adventure program at Confederation College received hands-on experience on April 7, thanks to a new collaboration with Wasaya.

Following a detailed tour of the various sections of the aircraft, the fourteen Flight Attendant students who are currently in their fourth semester of their program had the opportunity to practice in-flight demonstrations alongside the experienced Wasaya team using the same equipment they will later use in their careers.

"Giving students the ability to work with the actual equipment on board a real aircraft is so much more valuable than just showing pictures in a classroom setting," said Program Coordinator Giannina Veltri. "Wasaya has been an important supporter of our program over the years and have hired many of our graduates. We are grateful for their continued support and their willingness to pursue this new form of partnership. I look forward to expanding this collaboration for future classes."

"Wasaya is excited to partner with the college to provide the Travel and Tourism students with information, skills and knowledge to explore the option of a career in the Aviation Industry, " states Shannon Lattu, Flight Attendant Manager with Wasaya. "Hands on experience is a valuable learning tool and we are pleased to be able to introduce them to the different departments within our company and have them work alongside our experienced team."

Throughout the semester, students have had the opportunity to practice various scenarios and emergency procedures including evacuation drills, how to use emergency/safety equipment and learn about aircraft de-icing. These skills will be essential to their future success in the industry.
