May 9, 2016

An associate professor at Lambton College has been recognized as one of the top professors in the region by the Cisco Networking Academy. Mike Bechard, an instructor with the College's Information Technology Professional program, was recently informed that his accomplishments and contributions to the academy had earned him the company's Rising Star award.

The award recognizes top-notch networking instructors with three years of service or less based on various criteria including participation in online instructor communities, completion of professional development opportunities, attention to student needs, and overall student performance.

Bechard received a pin commemorate his accomplishment along with a $100 USD Visa gift card. He also earned a certificate for the award and an icon that can be used as part of his email signature. His name has also been publicly recognized along with other instructors who have received an award on the Cisco NetSpace Recognition Program website.

Bechard currently teaches the Cisco Certified Network Administrator course at Lambton College, a professional certification widely recognized in the information technology sector. In the past, he has also taught project managements and Microsoft courses.

A former Project Executive with IBM, Bechard joined Lambton College when he retired after 34 years with the company. He got his start working as a network specialist with IBM, and was actually heavily involved in helping the company form their own relationship with Cisco.

"I'm not surprised that Mike would be honoured with such an award," says Chris Slade, Dean, International Education & Computer Studies, Lambton College. "He frequently receives positive student reviews, his classes are all well-prepared and organized, and he is the consummate professional. We are lucky to have him as an associate professor at Lambton College."

Lambton College's Information Technology Professional program is a two-year post-graduate program that trains students in computer networking and systems administrative support. The program prepares students to become proficient in the practices and techniques used in the management of modern IT networking infrastructures including wired and wireless networks.
