NorQuest College is working with an industry partner to offer members of the public pragmatic, workforce relevant training as flight attendants.
Edmonton's NorQuest College will be the first institution in the province to offer Sterling Aviation Inc.'s New Heights training. Sterling specializes in providing executive in-flight services for corporate and private customers. Graduates of the program will also gain extensive knowledge and a vested interest when entering all areas of the aviation industry.
"We have identified a need for better qualified individuals," says Sterling's in-flight director, Jacqueline Bailey. "We are not just offering an education. We will see students through and assist them in procuring a position within the aviation workforce."
Since Sterling is a direct provider of flight attendant jobs, graduates will be given the opportunity to work within the company's contract services.
"Our goal is to train individuals who have a passion for travel and want to see the world with us," she says.
In Alberta, where diversification has been a popular buzzword since the economic downturn in 2014, government has challenged the post-secondary sector to come up with innovative and workforce-relevant training options. NorQuest College believes this training is exactly the kind of opportunity that will directly lead to new career options for Albertans.
"NorQuest is committed to meeting the needs of Alberta," says vice president of business development, Marian Gayed. "It is a goal of ours to match employers with qualified graduates who are passionate about not only improving their own lives, but the health of the communities in which they live and work."
