DOUGLAS COLLEGE
New agreements pave way for engineering students to complete their degree at SFU; UVic

November 14, 2017

Engineering students at Douglas College can now complete their bachelor's degree at two of B.C.'s top universities.

Douglas has partnered with Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria with transfer agreements that allow engineering students from Douglas to transfer seamlessly into the second year of the bachelor of engineering program at both institutions.

Brian Chapell, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Douglas College, says Douglas is excited to provide more pathways for students.

"Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria offer two of the most modern and competitive engineering degree programs in the province. By entering into these transfer agreements, Douglas students will have more options available to help them achieve their academic and career goals," said Chapell.

The transfer agreements, effective as of September 2017, guarantee students who have completed the one-year Douglas College Engineering Foundations certificate, and who meet the required GPA, a seamless entry into the second year of a bachelor of engineering program.

Douglas College offers two credentials in Engineering: a one-year Engineering Foundations certificate and a two-year Engineering Essentials diploma. Students can transfer after completing the one-year certificate, but if they complete the diploma before transferring to university, they'll gain hands-on skills that can help them down the road.

"The diploma provides them with valuable practical skills in fabrication and prototyping. These skills can provide an advantage for students when applying for co-op jobs as part of their future engineering degree program," says Allan Majdanac, Engineering Program Coordinator at Douglas College.
