A donation of $110,000 from the Rotary Club of Wolfville-Mud Creek to Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) will mean tuition support annually for four local high school students choosing to study at the College.
Details of the new Mud Creek Rotary NSCC Entrance Award were revealed at the Kingstec Campus in Kentville. The donation is part of Make Way - The Campaign for NSCC, a $25-million fundraising initiative aimed at supporting students on their NSCC journey.
"We know this gift will open doors for students who wish to study with us," says NSCC President Don Bureaux.
"As we prepare for convocation ceremonies at NSCC campuses around the province, I know there will be graduates crossing the stage who have achieved success thanks to the support of awards such as this. We see on a daily basis the challenges our students face and how, with help, they can overcome those challenges. On behalf of our staff and students, I want to express our gratitude for this wonderful investment."
Beginning this year, the new entrance award will provide financial assistance to one student from each of these four local high schools: Central Kings Rural High School, Horton High School, Northeast Kings Education Centre and West Kings District High School, every year, in perpetuity.
"We hope to create a legacy that will lend a helping hand to four Grade 12 students from our communities every year, taking into account financial need," says Tom Herman, President, Rotary Club of Wolfville-Mud Creek.
"Our intent is to recognize students who demonstrate leadership through extra-curricular activities, volunteer work or community involvement, which we consider important building blocks on the road to becoming contributing members of our communities. We know there will be amazing applicants who will seek out this support, and we are pleased to be able to offer it."
