CAMBRIAN COLLEGE
Sudbury Community Foundation Supports Cambrian College Students

September 4, 2020

As students get ready to return to class, begin studies online or safely settle into Residence at Cambrian College, Cambrian College is happy to welcome $15,000 in financial support from the Sudbury Community Foundation that will assist students who are most in need this September.

"Some of the unseen or less-talked about ripple effects of COVID-19 is the profound impact on students, here in Sudbury and across Ontario," says Alexandra Curry, Executive Director of the Sudbury Community Foundation.  "Part of our vision at the Foundation is to reinforce a sense of community and share our values with others.  We all know students need to be equipped to succeed in the current circumstances from the pandemic and we hope today's donation will allow those who need that assistance will be able to focus on studies and not the basic necessities they require to be a student."

The $15,000 donation has been allotted into two important services:

  • $5,000 to Cambrian's Rick Fedec Hardship Bursary

These emergency funds are designed to alleviate unforeseen financial difficulties and reduce the stress of meeting financial needs

  • $10,000 to Cambrian's Student Foodbank

This support of the Student Foodbank will help feed students, and in many cases, their families, as several our students identify as mature with children or as single parents.

"Due to COVID-19, many of our students have been laid off or just couldn't find a job this year," says Brandi Brathwaite, Cambrian's Director of Development and Alumni. "That means less money for daily necessities such as rent, food, school supplies, and internet access, which is crucial to online learning. Today's support will help in a tremendous way as our student adjust to education in a COVID-19 era."
