ÉCOLE DES PÊCHES ET DE L'AQUACULTURE DU QUÉBEC
A three-year agreement with the communities of Kangiqsujuaq, Quaqtaq, Inukjuak and Kuujjuaq

October 14, 2022

In collaboration with Makivik Corporation, ÉPAQ is proud to announce that it has entered into a three-year continuing education partnership with the Inuit communities of Kangiqsujuaq, Quaqtaq, Inukjuak and Kuujjuaq. Since September 22, nine people from these communities have started training to develop their skills in navigation and fishing.

For a period of three years, the agreement will allow participants to perfect their knowledge in multiple aspects in the field of navigation. In addition, the training will aim to deepen knowledge about mending, the conservation and handling of species on board the fishing vessel, the preparation of fishing trips, the use of nautical charts and the care and measures appropriate to apply in order to ensure the safety of personnel on a ship. In addition to both theoretical and practical courses, candidates will also complete internships on the ÉPAQ school boat.

To adequately meet the needs of the participants, the training will be offered alternately between Grande-Rivière and one of the communities. Thus, during the fall semesters, students will follow their training at ÉPAQ while the teaching team will travel to Nunavik during the winter semesters.
