On December 7, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Montreal time), the Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) will be holding an online training event on ethical deliberation. This 12th REB webinar is intended for Research Ethics Board (REB) members and those who coordinate REB activities.
The upcoming webinar will include a presentation on the ethics deliberation process and a mock REB deliberation meeting. The participants who have agreed to take part in the mock exercise will highlight all the sought-after attributes of REB members, as defined by the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2, 2018).
How can an REB structure the thinking around a research project review? How can it foster a collaborative approach within the REB? Why and how should we reach a consensus, in other words, adopt a position that is sufficiently acceptable to all committee members, even though that position may still contain minor points of disagreement? A presentation of the basic notions of ethical deliberation will precede the mock research project review, followed by a discussion period to wrap up the session.
Note that discussions with the resource person can be held in both English and French. Note also that in order to encourage an open discussion and full participation, the session will not be available for offline viewing after it has ended. Anyone interested in registering for the event can fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/PzDj3LmCMtponBuq5. Individuals from institutions (i.e., staff, research unit and research committee members) that make a contribution to ARC will be allowed to participate free of charge. Otherwise, the fees are outlined in the fee schedule.
