Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Erin Hurkett has been appointed as Director of Learning.

"Her diverse professional experiences, passion for learning and commitment to students and staff will be of great benefit in this new role. Erin is an exceptional educator and is deeply committed to supporting schools as we strive to provide an outstanding learning experience that meets the needs of each of our students."
Hurkett began her career in Horizon School Division teaching elementary, middle school and providing learning support for students in K to 12. She later served Horizon School Division as a Vice Principal, Principal and Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. In 2015, Hurkett joined Lethbridge School Division as Principal of Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School. In 2021 she was appointed Principal at Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary School. Hurkett holds a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Lethbridge. She completed a Master of Education in Leadership in 2011, also from the U of L.

"I look forward to supporting everyone as we venture into new curriculum and best practices and am excited to meet new faces and learn of the great things happening in your schools."
Throughout her career, Hurkett has demonstrated a deep commitment to professional learning. For the past five years, she has served as the Professional Development Chair for the Administrator Committee and has been a member of the Division literacy committee. Erin has experience building effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, supporting teachers in developing practices that foster comprehensive literacy and numeracy development and implementing creative, inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning.
Hurkett is excited to join the Division's leadership team and is looking forward to contributing to the excellent work of the Instructional Services team.
