Congratulations to the Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School Girls Field Hockey team who placed Antique Bronze at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championship games last weekend.

The games were hosted at a variety of fields within the Milton, Oakville and Burlington region. The medal rounds, where the girls placed Antique Bronze, were held at Craig Kielburger Secondary School in Milton.
The team were undefeated in their pool play, then beat Merivale High School (Nepean) in the quarter finals 5-0, which advanced the team to the semi-finals. Though the girls lost to Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School 4-3, they went on to play in the bronze medal game, where they played Bluevale Collegiate Institute (Waterloo). The same team they met in last year's gold medal game.
The girls were up 2-0 at half, then tied the game in regular time. After 15 minutes of overtime, there was still no score. The team did a 5-player penalty shootout and were tied again. The teams entered into a sudden death shootout (one shooter for one until someone scores) and were defeated.
"The girls battled hard the entire tournament. They did not give up in the final game; they controlled the play for much of the game," said Mia Sarris White, Special Education Resource Teacher, Department Head and Field Hockey coach for HCCSS. "We are very proud of their accomplishments and know that the final four teams to medal were very strong."
