DURHAM CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School 25th Anniversary Celebration

May 15, 2024

On May 9, 2024, students, families, staff, government officials, and community members came together at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School to celebrate the school's 25th anniversary. St. Teresa of Calcutta, fondly known as Mother Teresa is an inspirational modern-day Saint who set a living example of Christian charity for people of all denominations worldwide. She was profound in the simplicity of her faith, always grounded in the foundational act of unconditional love of neighbour. The world mourned her passing on September 5, 1997. On that very same day the Durham Catholic District School Board passed a motion to build a new school in Ajax, Ontario and named it in honour of Mother Teresa. Following her beatification in 2003 the school was renamed Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and subsequently acquired its current name when she was declared a Saint by the Pope in 2016.

Over the past 25 years, generations of students, family and staff have contributed to the development of the St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School community.A special thank you to the organizing committee for their efforts in commemorating the history and ongoing presence of this vibrant Catholic learning community in Ajax, including Principal, Mrs. Paul, school staff, and the amazing planning committee comprised of parents, staff, Trustees, and community members, who have put so much time and effort into planning the celebration. Special thanks also to the pastor at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Father Chris Lemieux for presiding over the celebratory Mass.
