At the May 22 Regular Meeting of the Board, trustees approved a balanced budget of $691 million for the 2024-25 school year. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) budget focuses on supporting student needs, in alignment with the board's Strategic Priorities. Highlights of the budget include:
- Funding for additional staff to support special education;
- Increases to the full-time staffing complement to support the continued growth in enrolment expected at the SCDSB.
"The SCDSB has consistently focused on fiscal responsibility and accountability, and in doing so, operated with a balanced budget," said Corry Van Nispen, Superintendent of Business and Facility Services. "Developing and managing a budget of this size and scope is a collaborative effort between the Board of Trustees, Director of Education, senior administrative team, and financial reporting team."
The SCDSB continues to experience financial pressures in the areas of special education, transportation, student accommodation, and sick leave.
Funding is allocated to school boards from the Ministry of Education. For the 2024-25 school year, the funding model has been restructured to make it simpler to understand and strengthen accountability, while balancing the need for flexibility based on local school board needs.
