Legacy Fest brought together 15 Black professionals from diverse fields to inspire, motivate and empower Black students.
Students had the opportunity to choose from a variety of workshops where they could network and learn from professionals working in fields like healthcare, literature, music and more. Professionals shared their career journeys and students learned more about a variety of pathways and career options.
"The goal was really to connect students to hear those career journeys and these stories so we can motivate, inspire and empower them to pursue their goals, aspirations and dreams, ultimately," said Jonatan Fuentes, Black Student Graduation Coach, York Region District School Board. "And I think the power of seeing yourself in someone that is in a position that you aspire to be in, lets the student know that hey, if they can do it, then I can do it as well, and I think that's really the essence of what we wanted to achieve at Legacy Fest."
