Northland School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Leanne Schram as Learning Coach for Physical Literacy and Athletics.
Leanne Schram began her education journey as an Educational Assistant in 2000. Inspired by a colleague, she pursued a teaching career and earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta (U of A) in 2009.
In 2011, Leanne participated in a research grant on Comprehensive School Health, igniting her dedication to student wellness and leading her to earn a Master's in Physical Health Education from the U of A. Her extensive coaching experience includes volleyball, soccer, badminton, running clubs, archery, and track and field. She also organized annual student trips to Vancouver for the Sun Run.
Reflecting on her philosophy, Leanne said, "Scott Kretchmar writes, When movement is experienced as joy, it adorns our lives, improves our days, and gives us something to look forward to.' I believe in this philosophy, helping students find joy in physical activity, which benefits their health and academic performance. I look forward to working with Northland school communities to enhance students' holistic wellness."
"Leanne's role was established in response to community engagement conversations with students, parents, guardians, and community members," said Cal Johnson, Superintendent of Schools/CEO. "We heard the need for better physical education programming and more opportunities for students to play team sports. Leanne has the experience we are looking for and the ability to work with schools and communities around Physical Literacy and Athletics."
Leanne enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on the Oilers, and exploring nature. She is excited about the opportunity to contribute to students' holistic wellness and positively impact their lives and communities.
