OTTAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD
Frank Ryan Students Shatter Fundraising Goals with Annual Turkey Trot

November 8, 2024

When the Frank Ryan Intermediate Catholic School community comes together, extraordinary things happen. This was crystal clear at their 44th Annual Turkey Trot of Hope, where a spirited effort led to a new record of $51,873.90 raised for various charities. It's a powerful testament to what can be achieved when students, staff, and alums many bringing their children along for the tradition unite for a cause.

Cornerstone of the Community

Since its inception in 1981, the Turkey Trot has become a cornerstone event, energizing the school community and accumulating nearly $1.2 million in donations for organizations like the Terry Fox Foundation and the Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa. This year's event not only continued this proud tradition but also highlighted the incredible impact of Frank Ryan students when they join forces with their community.

Deep Learning in Action

The Turkey Trot showcases the practical application of Deep Learning. Students are encouraged to contribute financially and participate in every step of the process, from planning to execution. This involvement fosters empathy, teamwork, and an appreciation for the importance of citizenship.

Incentives Day

The excitement peaked on November 1, 2024, with Incentives Day - a day filled with fun and silliness to celebrate reaching their fundraising goal. This special day transformed recognition into a celebration, starting with an assembly where students proudly presented their hard-earned donations to the charities they helped. This direct connection between their efforts and the resulting benefits was unmistakably impactful.

Inflatable Costumes - Say What?

Throughout the day, the school was abuzz with activities designed to celebrate their hard work and strengthen community bonds. Students and staff participated in lively events like inflatable costume races and pie-throwing contests, ensuring the day was as enjoyable as it was meaningful. The festivities concluded with a school-wide dance, a fitting end to a day filled with unity and shared success. This event celebrated the achievements of the Turkey Trot and the strong, supportive culture that thrives within our school community.

To share the vibrant spirit of this day, we've captured the highlights in a video featured on our blog. As you watch, you'll see the energy and dedication that define the Frank Ryan community. This video is a window into how our students and staff meet their goals and go above and beyond while fostering a sense of joy and community spirit.
