On March 4, Westminster Elementary School celebrated the launch of a very special book - I Wish You Could See.
A few years ago, the Lethbridge Fire Department lost a paramedic to a fatal climbing accident in July. "Greg Gaudette and his friend lost their lives doing something they loved to do," said Westminster teacher Allison Stewart. "I had known Greg for most of his life and his death came as a shock. Greg left his beautiful wife and two-year-old son, Kace."
Gaudette's widow, Colby, after looking for literature to support her son in the process of grieving and losing his father, found there really wasn't anything suitable. With that in mind, she decided to write her own book.
"I Wish You Could See is a beautifully written and illustrated book supporting children who have lost a loved one," said Stewart, who added that set in motion an initiative to get the book in the hands of Lethbridge students. "I felt the need to do something to support Greg's legacy and decided to approach the Lethbridge Firefighters Charities Association. We came together, and they agreed to purchase enough books to put in all of the hands of the elementary school counsellors in Lethbridge School Division and the Catholic school division."
On March 4, Westminster, with the help of the Lethbridge Firefighters Charities Association, hosted a book launch.
