Bluewater District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Peeters to fill a recent trustee vacancy for the Township of Southgate/Municipality of Grey Highlands.
The appointment was announced with Peeters sworn in at a Special Regular Meeting of the Board on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 following an extensive public recruitment campaign to solicit applications from qualified candidates. The position is in effect for the remainder of the 2022 - 2026 term of the Board of Trustees, to coincide with the municipal election process.

With over 30 years in education, Peeters has lived in Southgate/Grey Highlands since 2001. He resides just outside of Markdale and is eager to continue serving his community.
"We are extremely pleased to welcome Wayne to the Board of Trustees and look forward to the experience and insight he will bring to our important work in serving the students and families of Bluewater," says Chair Jane Thomson. "Thank you to the many other qualified candidates who courageously stepped up to put their names forward through their applications in a competitive process. It is our sincere hope that these dedicated individuals will seriously consider running for trustee in the next municipal election in 2026."
Ontario's Education Act allows school boards the option of appointing a qualified person to fill a trustee vacancy within 90 days. This past February, Bluewater District School Board trustees voted to seek an appointment for the vacant seat. An application process was initiated after the two runner-up candidates from the most recent municipal election held in October 2022 were approached and indicated that they were no longer able to serve.
Bluewater District School Board is comprised of nine elected trustees, one appointed First Nations trustee, and two student trustees.
