At a Special Meeting of the Board held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Trustees of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board appointed John Valvasori, Trustee for Wards 8 and 14, as Chairperson of the Board.
Mr. Valvasori brings a lifetime of service in Catholic education to the role. A retired secondary-school principal with more than 35 years in education 17 of those as principal he has served as a Trustee since 2010 and as Vice-Chairperson of the Board since 2015. He is known for his steady leadership, deep commitment to student success, and unwavering belief in the mission of Catholic education.
In thanking his fellow trustees for their confidence, Chairperson Valvasori outlined the principles that will guide his leadership:
"I am humbled to serve as Chair of this Board. My focus will remain on Catholicity, the needs of our students and staff, and, most importantly, our relationship with God. That work begins with understanding and respecting each other's roles as we move forward in faith and unity."
He added, "I was recently watching Sullivan's Crossing when a character said, Looking backwards keeps a person from moving forward.' Those words stayed with me. From here on, our efforts will centre on moving forward."
Chairperson Valvasori also acknowledged his predecessor, Patrick J. Daly, whose recent resignation concluded 40 years of service as a Catholic school trustee, including 34 years as Chairperson. He expressed profound gratitude for Mr. Daly's enduring leadership and the lasting impact of his insight, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Catholic education.
In other business, Mark Valvasori, Trustee for Wards 1 & 2, was appointed Vice-Chairperson of the Board.
As the end of the 2024-2025 school year approaches, the Board celebrates with the graduates of our school board, offers thanks to those whose vocation with the Board ends at the end of this school year, and joins together in prayer for the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and families over the summer. We look forward with hopeful expectation to the 2025-2026 school year.
