As we prepare for the 2025-26 school year, the Government of Yukon is sharing an update on school staffing. Three dedicated school authorities proudly support Yukon schools: Yukon Education Authority; the First Nation School Board; and the Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon.
As of August 1, 2025, for the 21 schools managed by Yukon Education Authority:
- Approximately 96 per cent of the 472.5 positions for teachers, principals and vice-principals are filled.
- Active recruitment, including internal job postings, continues for:
- 18 teachers;
- one temporary principal; and
- one temporary vice-principal.
As of August 1, 2025, for the 11 schools managed by the First Nation School Board:
- Approximately 95 per cent of the 106.3 positions for teachers, principals and vice-principals are filled.
- Active recruitment, including internal job postings, continues for:
- 5.5 teachers.
As of August 1, 2025, the four schools managed by the Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon are fully staffed for teachers, principals and vice-principals.
Teachers on call
The Department of Education manages recruitment and hiring for all teachers on call in Whitehorse for all three school authorities. As of August 1, staffing was complete or in the final stages for 208 teachers on call in Whitehorse.
As of August 1, the following number of teachers on call are available in the communities:
- 18 teachers on call for Yukon Education and the Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon schools; and
- 29 teachers on call for First Nation School Board schools.
