Starting this October, the speed limit will drop to 30 km/h on a busy section of Wallace Drive in Brentwood Bay. The update responds to community requests to improve safety and create a continuous driving speed in an area with two school zones and a playground.
Drivers can expect to see new speed limit signs later this month on Wallace Drive between Greig Avenue and West Saanich Road. This fall, Central Saanich Police will have an increased presence on this section, roughly between Bayside Middle School and Brentwood Elementary School, to encourage everyone to slow down and drive safely.
This is the first of several speed limit updates coming to Central Saanich, following a bylaw amendment in September. The changes beginning to roll out this winter will see sections of several collector roads lowered to 40 km/h and most residential streets with a default speed limit of 30 km/h.
Upcoming speed limit reductions will be shared with the community and implemented gradually across neighborhoods, with enforcement beginning after new signage is installed.
