KAMLOOPS
City Preserves Brocklehurst Parkland with Purchase of Parkcrest Park

November 24, 2025

The City has acquired a piece of parkland in Brocklehurst from School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson). The property, located at 2393 Parkcrest Avenue, is commonly known as Parkcrest Park and is used for both organized sports and passive recreation.

Although not an official City park, the City has historically used and maintained the property as such, with grounds maintenance and field bookings already incorporated into ongoing budgets and processes. This means acquiring this property will have no impact on City operations.

"Preserving neighbourhood parkland provides lasting benefits for both the community and the environment," said Sherri Holmes, the City's Sport, Recreation, and Wellness Manager.

"The City will continue to maintain and use this property as a park, providing a space for recreation and for neighbourhood residents."

The Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education is pleased the property will remain as parkland.

"While Parkcrest Park is not required for educational purposes, it is a site that provides community benefit and enjoyment," said Board Chair Heather Grieve.

"We are grateful to the City for maintaining the property over the time it was owned by the district, and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership on initiatives that support both educational and community priorities," added Grieve.

Following several weeks of community consultation in November 2024, the Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education announced that they would be seeking approval from the Ministry of Education and Child Care to dispose of the property as it was not required for educational purposes and too small for a school site.

The acquisition for $1,980,000 completes on November 28, 2025, and will be funded from the Parkland Reserve.

"Together, the City and School District remain committed to working together to develop spaces that serve the educational needs of local families and strengthen our community," said Holmes.
