Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is excited to announce the new Early Learners in Motion (ELM) pre-kindergarten program is being introduced in the 2026-27 school year. ELM provides young learners with a fun, inclusive way to learn using early literacy, movement, music and play-based learning to help children feel confident heading into kindergarten.
"EIPS pre-kindergarten programming provides early learning experiences where all children can grow, explore and build a foundation of learning together," says Kari Huk, assistant director of Supports for Students. "By engaging children early, we support their development and help build readiness for kindergarten and beyond. The introduction of ELM pre-kindergarten is just another exciting step in ensuring all children in our communities can begin their education journey with confidence."
Within the ELM pre-kindergarten program, children will experience literacy-rich activities; early numeracy exploration; movement, art and music; mindfulness and social-emotional learning; and broad play-based learning.
ELM pre-kindergarten is planned in communities throughout EIPS. Final program locations for 2026-27 will depend on program interest and final registration.
