On Dec. 3, Ontario's Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the 2024-25 EQAO assessment test results. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) results showed improvements in Grade 3 and 6 language and Grade 9 mathematics over the previous year, as well as meeting the provincial standard for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).
These results build on previous improvements in EQAO assessments, and demonstrate an increase in student achievement over time as they work towards graduation.
"We are proud of the efforts of SCDSB students who participated in the 2024-25 EQAO assessments," says Dawn Stephens, Director of Education. "The SCDSB has dedicated staff time and resources to creating meaningful and current programs to support student achievement in math and literacy, and those efforts are having an impact with students in our classrooms."
EQAO assessments are one piece of information that inform the SCDSB's work. School and board staff analyze EQAO data together with other assessment, well-being, and engagement data to understand student needs and how we can respond to them.
Some highlights include:
- Grade 3 Reading - 70% met the provincial standard, which is a two per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment
- Grade 6 Reading - 82% met the provincial standard, which is a five per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment
- Grade 6 Writing - 81% met the provincial standard, which is a seven per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment
- Grade 9 Mathematics - four per cent increase from the 2023-24 assessment
- OSSLT - 85% met the provincial standard
The SCDSB will continue to focus on supporting students, strengthening core skills, delivering professional development for educators, and providing opportunities and resources for families to continue the learning at home.
