On Wednesday, January 21, Kindergarten and Grade 1 students in North Delta enjoyed a hands-on bus safety demonstration when school transportation company First Student hosted a special safety event at Richardson Elementary School.
Students from Hellings, Jarvis, Devon Gardens, McCloskey, Heath, and Richardson Elementary Schools took part in the day. For many students, the event began with an exciting bus ride, as those traveling from other schools rode a First Student bus to Richardson Elementary and back again - putting their bus safety learning into practice right away.
Once at Richardson Elementary, students rotated through interactive learning stations. They listened carefully to a safety talk about proper bus behavior and had the chance to board a stationary school bus, where they learned important safety rules in a fun, age-appropriate way.
"This fun event gave young learners an unforgettable introduction to bus safety while reinforcing safe habits they can use every day," said Tina Doukas, Principal at Richardson Elementary. "Many thanks to First Student for organizing such a valuable event for students in Delta."
