GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA
Teachers and principals are invited to apply for the Teacher Advisory Council, which will help shape provincial education policy

February 4, 2026

Alberta's education system is among the best in the world, and teachers are essential to delivering the world-class education students receive across the province. To ensure teachers' expertise and front-line experience are central to guiding education policy, Alberta's government has established the Teacher Advisory Council.

The council will bring together up to 15 educators representing a diverse range of school settings, roles and communities to share their perspectives with the minister of Education and Childcare. Their practical insights and ideas will help shape policies that meet the needs of students, teachers and schools.

"Teachers understand the realities of today's classrooms. Their expertise is essential to addressing class size and classroom complexity. The Teacher Advisory Council ensures teachers have a direct voice as we work together to strengthen education for Alberta students."

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education and Childcare

Appointments to the council will be made by ministerial order for terms of up to 18 months and may be eligible for reappointment. Members will attend online meetings outside of school hours. Council appointments are unpaid and voluntary.

Application details

Teachers and principals interested in applying for the council can apply online. The deadline for applications is Feb. 13, 2026. Members of the council are appointed by the minister of Education and Childcare.
