The Thames Art Gallery is pleased to present two new exhibitions: Hyphenated by Ukrainian artist Lana Matskiv and Here I Am, an exhibition showcasing the work of Chatham-Kent high school students.
Hyphenated invites audiences into a richly layered visual world by showcasing more than forty pieces ranging from paintings to drawing-based collages and immersive installations. The exhibition moves between intimate portraiture, striking still-life, and vibrant multifigure compositions that brim with symbolism and complexity.
At the heart of the exhibition lies the concept of the "hyphen", not as a divider, but as a living, connected space. For Matskiv, the hyphen becomes a poetic meeting point where histories, cultures, and personal narratives intersect, overlap, and continually evolve.
Here I Am is a collection of works that celebrates the curiosity, technique, and talent of emerging creatives in grades 9-12 across Chatham-Kent. Explore the visual narratives these students use to share their perspectives through diverse media and creative processes.
A public reception, including entertainment and refreshments, will be held on April 17, 2026, from 7:00-9:00 pm. Visitors will be able to cast their votes for the People's Choice Awards from 7:00-7:45 pm. The announcement of student award winners will follow. This year's awards were made possible through the generosity of Cathy Van Raay-Myers, Salus Mutual, and The Andersons. We look forward to having you join us for an evening of art, community, and celebration.
Hyphenated and Here I Am are on display from April 17 to July 5, 2026. The Thames Art Gallery welcomes visitors Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm, with extended hours on Saturdays until 6:00 pm. The Gallery is located in the Chatham Cultural Centre, 75 William St. N. Chatham. Admission is by donation.
