HAMILTON-WENTWORTH CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
CHS Receives 10K Spike Donation

May 1, 2026

Thanks to a generous donation from STAC Hamilton, every track and field student at Cathedral High School will be laced up.

On April 20, the school welcomed Vincent Kuber, Executive Director of STAC Hamilton, for a donation presentation of $10,000 worth of spike shoes, an investment that will directly support student athletes in reaching their full potential.

A former track athlete himself, Kuber shared his personal journey about overcoming challenges while competing without proper equipment. A visual to his story, Kuber brought along his first-ever pair of track shoes he used to compete in school, a treasured symbol of his drive throughout his athletic career. His experiences shaped his vision for creating STAC Hamilton, an organization dedicated to ensuring that young people have access to the opportunities he once lacked.

"I've created STAC for the purpose of giving youth like myself, like everyone here, like this entire neighbourhood, this entire community, the opportunities that I wish I had."

STAC Hamilton is a charitable organization committed to uplifting youth from equity-deserving communities through athletic, academic, and life-skill development. By offering inclusive social and recreational programming, the organization works to break down barriers and create access to high-quality athletics, education, and mentorship opportunities for youth aged 5 to 19 across the City of Hamilton.

"STAC has always been a tremendous supporter of our students here at Cathedral," said Coach Dante Luciani.

"This recent donation is an example of the great work they do, day in and day out in our community. This donation will help equip our team with the equipment needed to be successful both on and off the track. We are incredibly grateful to Vincent and his team for stepping up for us."

Also expressing deep gratitude was Principal Kevin Monaco, who shared how this donation is especially meaningful for students at Cathedral.

"Cathedral serves a richly diverse student population. Many of our student athletes face financial and social barriers that can make participation in school sports a challenge. STAC's mission to remove obstacles and create equitable access to athletics reflects the very values we strive to uphold within our school community."

The impact of this donation extends far beyond equipment, he added.

"Providing proper footwear ensures student safety, boosts confidence, and enables athletes to perform at their best. More importantly, it sends a powerful message that every student belongs, that their potential matters, and that their dreams are worth investing in."
