Northland School Division is celebrating another significant student achievement. Northland Online School's Patience Badger has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Student Award. The award recognizes students who show growth, determination and success in their learning and personal lives. Patience was one of nine students from across Alberta recognized during the award celebration on May 11, 2026, at Government House.
Patience is a Grade 9 student who embraces her culture, supports her peers and approaches learning with purpose and heart. Over the past year, she has shown meaningful growth in her learning and attendance. Through persistence, Patience has built confidence and strengthened the routines that support her success. She is known as a thoughtful communicator who uplifts those around her and shows leadership through kindness, perseverance and respect for learning.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am very proud to congratulate Patience on receiving this award," said Tanya Fayant, Board Chair. "To be selected from students across Alberta is a meaningful achievement. Patience is a positive example for other students, and the Board is proud to celebrate this achievement with her."

"Her progress in learning, attendance and confidence reflects the persistence, kindness and pride she brings to her learning journey. We are proud of Patience and congratulate her on this well deserved recognition."
The award is presented through a partnership between the ASBA and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta's office. The May 11 celebration included remarks from the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, ASBA President Shali Baziuk and 2025 award recipient Adelle Levesque. Each recipient received an award certificate and congratulatory letter, a unique medal and a one time $500 bursary.
